ANGEL TREES FOR DORCHESTER COUNTY CHILDREN TO PROVIDE HAPPY HOLIDAYS FOR MORE THAN 500
November 12, 2007
This holiday season you can be an angel for an angel. Angel Trees bearing the names of children and families in need are available at two locations. Summerville Homes is asking area citizens to donate toys, new clothes, or new shoes for children and families whose names are posted on Angel Trees at The Pines at Gahagan or The Elms of Charleston. Beginning November 12, anyone can visit either location, select a name from the Angel Tree and return gifts by December 17th to the location for delivery to Dorchester County Department of Social Services (DSS) for the family. Donors are asked to provide unwrapped gifts or gifts in gift bags labeled for the child or family they’ve selected.
In Dorchester County, there are 150 families in treatment programs mandated by DSS. This translates to more than 500 children whose lives have been impacted by abuse or neglect. These families are working hard to repair their lives and have agreed to a treatment plan. Children from these families are either in foster care, living with relatives or extended families to avoid more dislocation in their lives. In response to Summerville Homes desire to provide happier holidays, DSS furnished information about the families in need which can be found on each Angel Tree. Providing an unwrapped gift allows DSS to confirm that donated gifts are appropriate for the children.
Angel Trees are at The Pines of Gahagan located at 501 Gahagan Road, Summerville, SC or at The Elms of Charleston located at 9102 Wood Creek Court, North Charleston, SC. Hours are M-Sat. 11 AM-5 PM and Sundays from 1 PM – 5 PM. If you would like to select an angel and can’t visit during these hours, Summerville Homes’ staff can assist you by providing a name and information.
